Young mum's supporting each other

My name is Emily Shelley and I'm 17years old. I fell pregnant late November 2008 and as it was unplanned I was quite nervous. My midwife passed my details on to Liz who runs the young mums group and she contacted me and asked me to go along to the group.

I started going to the group in March, I kept leaving it, as I was nervous of meeting other girls. When I arrived most of the girls had been there a while but everyone welcomed me and I really enjoyed the first session.  The group is weekly on a Thursday and it really helped me prepare for the birth of my little boy. Every week we would have fresh sandwiches, snacks and drinks while we would discus a different topic, such as labour, pain relief, hospitals, natural birth, c-sections, bathing your newborn, and as we got close to someone's due date we would re-discus everything about labour, contractions and pain relief.

We also had bump casts made once we got to 37weeks, went on tours of the local hospitals, visited the Lichfield breast-feeding support group and the baby massage group. I am really glad I joined the young mums group, as I have made so many new friends who are all young mums like me, it really helped my decision to breast feed and I was fully prepared for looking after my little boy Seth who was born on 27th August 2009. And I would like to thank Liz and Laura for all the help and support they provide every week.
