The Truth About ‘Happy Feet

Our feet help us balance and carry us a distance equivalent to 5 times around the Earth during
a lifetime; in return, we rarely give them the attention they deserve. If you've ever experienced
foot pain, you know the wisdom of the old adage 'when your feet hurt, you hurt all over.'
Since mobility is an important part of your overall quality of life, maintaining foot comfort is a must.
The average pair of feet will travel 9,000 to 12,000 steps everyday; it's no wonder that a variety of things can go wrong. We look after our teeth with regular dental check-ups, yet our feet are typically taken for granted and only receive attention when something hurts. In the UK, it is
thought that 90% of us will suffer from a foot problem at some point in our lives. Many people put up with foot pain believing it to be normal.
If you suffer from dry or hard skin, cracked heels, if you are diabetic, have poor circulation or
simply find it difficult to cut and care for your toe nails, a regular 6–12 weekly visit to a podiatrist for general chiropody care is the best way to ensure your feet stay in tip top condition. Podiatrists can relieve painful feet, ingrown toenails, skin, nail and soft tissue problems.
Many people suffer with heel pain, Achilles tendon pain and ball of foot pain. Podiatrists can assess and treat the problem to maintain normal mobility, walking style, posture and function.
Badly fitting shoes can be very damaging to feet. In fact, many adults' foot problems occur or
can be made worse, because they wear poorly fitting shoes.
To help prevent damage to your feet make sure your shoes are the correct fit and are the right
shoe for the job. In addition, wearing good quality, well fitting socks is just as important and
ideally, these should be changed after exercise or should your feet perspire excessively.
Following an appropriate daily foot care routine will also maintain healthy feet. Wash your feet
every day, and dry thoroughly especially between the toes.
If you tend to suffer from dry and cracked skin, using a quality cream after washing will help
keep skin moisturised. Footsteps recommends CCS Cream.
