The Fab Four

Should you find yourself on Edge Hill Road in Four Oaks you will have no difficulty spotting the
Primary School and perhaps even hear the sound of children in the playground. What you may not notice is something of a hidden gem nestled between the school's two main buildings: Four Oaks Pre-School Playgroup.

Established in 1979 the playgroup recently moved into a purpose built unit and provides care Monday to Friday from 9am to 12 noon. In addition, pre-schoolers can attend a session on Wednesdays until 3.00pm.

Heather Moss leads a team of well-qualified and experienced 'Aunties'. Walk into the unit and you will find a friendly welcoming environment where the children are encouraged to play freely
and engage in a variety of activities. 'The Aunties are very approachable and there are lots of opportunities for the children to interact', said Melissa Hutchins, mother of William.

The playgroup inspires loyalty with satisfied mums and dads as Lorraine Botterill attests, 'With having all my five children happily attending the playgroup over the last twelve years I can highly recommend it, the staff are totally committed to every child's needs.'

The open plan design ensures a safe environment as well as accommodating designated areas for various activities. Inside, the walls are adorned with the children's work and brightly coloured displays. Information boards keep parents up to date with events and initiatives such as 'Every Child Matters' and the 'Early Years Foundation Stage'. Outside, a well-equipped secure play area provides the perfect backdrop for a child's imagination whether they are sailing the widest oceans or climbing the highest mountains.

The playgroup enjoys very close connections with Four Oaks Primary School, facilitating a smooth transition to 'big school'. Mrs Sutton, the headmistress and reception teachers make frequent visits to the playgroup throughout the year so become very familiar faces. Pre-schoolers take part in the infant school assembly from January and have lunch in the main school from May each year.

Every Monday afternoon during term time from 1.15pm to 3.00pm the Bumps and Babe group meets, bringing expectant mums and new parents together to share experiences and offer support and a friendly chat. Once you've graduated you might like to try the Toddler Group. It meets every Friday afternoon from 1.15pm to 3.00pm and gives parents, carers and children a chance to get to know each other and participate in a wide variety of creative activities.

If you would like to find out more or arrange a visit you can contact Heather Moss on 07966 147584.
