School in Focus: Little Aston Primary School, Sutton Coldfield.
Little Aston Primary School caters for children from 4 to 11 and serves the community of Little Aston and its surrounding areas.
At Little Aston, we believe in our responsibility to provide the best possible education for our children. We work hard to build on children's skills so that they become confident, independent and self-motivated lifelong learners. Our School Focus article has been produced from the perspective of the children, who are at the heart of our school.
Our School has been successful in gaining many awards including Basic Skills, Activemark and the Healthy Schools Award.
Parents and teachers work together to support our school. We have a very active PTA who organise several fun events throughout the year from BBQ's to Fayres and shows. The P.T.A. Show provides a fantastic opportunity for children, teachers and parents to perform songs, dances and even drama sketches to a wide audience.
"The experience is amazing and when I am on the stage it is a fabulous feeling with the lights shining upon me." Jaya.
"We have a School Council team who put forward ideas on how to improve our school. We recently wrote to Jamie Oliver inviting him to visit and try our wonderful dinners. We have an Eco-Council who are working hard to protect our environment." Paolo.
"We all belong to a House Team and collect merit points for good work. Every half term we have an achievement assembly to celebrate our success. We can earn bronze, silver and even gold awards. We are also given citizenship points at the start of the year and if we keep our points by behaving well and remembering our manners we receive Citizenship certificates and badges." Annie.
"Our school is a very happy and safe place in which to learn. There are a wide range of clubs for us to attend including karate, drama, Spanish and Cross-Country. We even have a Saturday Morning Club. Recently our choir performed at The Symphony Hall and Lichfield Cathedral amongst other local venues. Our football team has won the league and we have great coaches who come and train us. We have a large sports field that we all enjoy going on because it is a fabulous place to play sports and games. We have the opportunity to go on trips and residential visits, which help us become independent learners. Our favourite is Laches Wood where we climbed rocks and did archery and orienteering." Molly and Jack.
"This term Year Five and Six will be learning Mandarin Chinese. A teacher from China, who is working at King Edwards in Lichfield, will be teaching us this language and we are all very excited. Other year groups learn French. We use ICT to support us in lots of lessons and we have new computers in our suite. Each day we use Successmaker, which is an individual program to help us improve in our Literacy and Numeracy." Helen.
"We are Year Six pupils from Little Aston Primary School and we are writing our thoughts about this School. There are lots of great teachers and they are all kind and gentle. They work together to help us through school when we are stuck. They teach us lots of new things and every day we learn more." Jessica and Thomas.
"Little Aston Primary School offers many things to children. It is a fun and caring place like every school should be, The teachers and staff are brilliant and all the classrooms are clean and interesting sharing many displays for each subject. Every teaching room has an interactive white board and computer which helps us to learn in a fun way." Vicki.
