Rowan's Breast feeding diary

Breast Feeding Diary.

Milo Holt was born on July 22nd 2009 at 3.35am weighing 8lbs 10oz. He was born in one of the birthing pools at Samuel Johnson.

Week 1.

Milo is sleeping in two sets of 3 hours at night. Very sucky baby, also quite windy. Had bad attachment on my left breast which has left me feeling quite sore. My milk has come in so attachment is a bit tricky with flat nipples but Milo is feeding well.

Week 2.

Been really weepy today! Hormones all over the place, Milo is cluster feeding so predicting his next feed is difficult. He missed a feed last night so my boobs were over full this morning making attachment a bit sore, but once he was on he was feeding very well. He's been quite fretful and a bit difficult to settle for me, so mum had to help settle him for the night. Lack of sleep and a wide awake baby feels a little overwhelming but so worth it!

Week 3.

Milo still cluster feeding, think he's having a growth spurt so not getting much sleep! Purposely haven't bought any formula so I can't give up easily. Went to breastfeeding support group, really helpful talking to other mums with babies the same age as Milo and going through the same thing! Just having another mum whose breastfeeding to talk to gives me the confidence to continue and knowing I've got that support system is a big help! Determined to breastfeed!!!

Week 5.

Last night wasn't good. Milo was feeding every 1 hours but wasn't taking a full feed and kept falling asleep at the breast. Stripped him down to his nappy but that didn't work. Have been expressing as well because I have so much milk. Still cluster feeding all day but he favours the right breast. Decided to buy a box of formula and use that as his last feed at night, usually at 8pm. He's started smiling so when he wakes for his 3am feed and he smiles at me its all worth it!

Week 6.

The formula feed at night helps! It's been nearly a week now and he's sleeping 3-4 hours, so im catching up on sleep and now means im more rested and can feed him better at 2am instead of falling asleep next to him! He's found his voice and tries to talk to me but this usually happens when I'm feeding him so it's sometimes difficult to feed him because he just wants to talk! It's still very cute though!
