Here I Am (Prayers for Little Hands) by Lois Rock (Author), Kay Widdowson (Illustrator)

'Here I Am' is part of the 'Prayers for Little Hands' series, which each feature a single prayer on a simple theme. Each spread features a large pop-in jigsaw piece with a touch-and-feel textured panel, which reflects the words of the prayer, to help children learn to pray through play.

The pictures are colourful and engaging. The book and its play pieces are ideal for little hands. The text is simple and the use of repetition and keywords for early readers makes this ideal for toddlers as well as preschoolers.

The Lion Book of Two-Minute Bedtime Stories by Elena Pasquali (Author), Nicola Smee (Illustrator)

Both my 5 year old daughter and I loved this book. The easy to read stories with lots of
eyecatching illustrations made it a pleasure to read. My daughter listened intently to each of the stories and especially liked the fact that we had to discuss the moral of the story afterwards – her favourite being 'The Milkmaid and Her Pail' – a great lesson in vanity! The winning thing for me was the fact that each story did actually only take two minutes
to read – perfect for those times when they're begging for one last story at bedtime!

Everyone Needs a Hug by Sophie Piper (Author), Caroline Williams (Illustrator)

On the face of it, this book looked ideal for my 16 month old. Its pretty heart-shaped board pages are unusual, the illustrations are lovely, but somehow the wording
doesn't seem to fit – the phrase 'evening's fading light' is not something I see a one-year old (or even older) actually understanding.
Having said that, my daughter did enjoy sitting with me to look at it; she especially liked the animal pictures. It's a nice idea, but not one that would make me actually buy this book.
