Mum s in business: Heather Tait
I set up Heather Tait Photography two years ago following the birth of my first son, after a lot of encouragement from my antenatal group who had all had pictures of their children taken by me at our weekly meetings. I was running a company in a similar field that was not so child friendly, so thought photography would be a nice change
Never wanting to do this half heartedly I went on several courses to focus my talent on taking contemporary lifestyle images of children and their families.
I wanted to get away from the typical portraits that were popular at the time as I felt more passionate about taking children into the colours of the outside, they in turn responded better to having their picture taken, as to them they would just be playing.
I tested my new found talent on some close friends and family and I was totally hooked, I couldn't believe I hadn't been doing this my whole life.
Now I do everything from Lifestyle portraits for families to advertising shoots. I run my business at home so I can be around the children as much as I can and all my shoots are taken at the client's home or chosen location.
It's busy juggling two small children and what is increasingly becoming a successful photography business, but the job is so rewarding I wouldn't change a thing. I love taking the natural pictures I do of the children I get to meet and especially love the reaction I get from the parents when they see them.
