Time to shape up

When it comes to embarrassing moments, I've had a few. At the top of the list is something that keeps occurring. Since having my last child, I have struggled with my weight and still carry it on my stomach, which has led to people assuming and asking when the next baby is due.

The crunch came during a meeting recently, someone said it again very confidently. Now the time has come to do something about it.

That same week I met Hyde from At Home Fitness. Hyde talked me through what At Home Fitness offered – a six week promise to improve your fitness and work towards your goals, all in the privacy of your own home.

With At home Fitness, there is a commitment, appointments are booked and Hyde is coming to the house, so it fits in around the children and wasn't affected by my husband's work patterns.

So, I signed up for two sessions a week, for six weeks, beginning with the dreaded fitness assessment. This consists of Body Mass Index, measurements, fitness test, including stepping, sit ups and press ups. At this point my lack of fitness was revealed.
I had a complete inability to complete a "proper" press up, I managed six in a minute. We
also discussed in depth dietary habits, from this Hyde went away and compiled a fitness regime and healthier eating advice.

During the following six weeks Hyde turned up twice a week to put me through my paces. The session began with a brisk walk which Hyde eventually turned into a jog as my fitness improved. When back at the house, he set up a series of exercises tailored
to my needs. This combined boxercise, weight training and abdominal work, for an all-over workout designed to help me achieve my goals. Each station is timed, then straight on to the next exercise. This keeps each exercise short and your heart rate raised. Hyde ensures you have the correct technique and offers encouragement and support. In
my case, I can safely say that I have never worked so hard during a keep fit session.

Following the six week programme, it's back to the assessment. This time it's not so
laborious. My resting heart rate is 12 beats per min lower. I have improved my BMI and lost 6cms around my waist, hence a slightly more toned stomach – Yipeee And my proudest achievement? 18 press ups. At Home Fitness has definitely worked for me and
I shall be continuing as I realise I still have a long way to go but I stand much more of a chance getting there with Hyde's help than going it alone.
