Drama in Pyjamas
An innovative new pre-school drama scheme which blends play, pretend, music, drama and dance has launched in Sutton Coldfield.
Local mum Kate Moor started the classes in May in response to the demand for something a little different from traditional dance and football classes. Kate says "parents wanted to be actively involved in seeing and participating in their child's development. Pyjama drama offers a range of developmental benefits for small children and is fun and relaxed"
Kate a fulltime working mum bought the franchise at the beginning of the year as she wanted to do something rewarding that offered a sense of achievement whilst giving an extra income in these difficult times. "I found Pyjama Drama after a tip off from my sister and haven't looked back. I have been able to fit the classes and the work around my full time job and also maintain important family time. In fact Pyjama Drama has improved how we communicate as a family and I have so much fun with my son and partner practising the sessions. They think nothing of flapping around the living room pretending to be dragons! I can't wait for the weekend not for the rest, but to see the 30 children in the three classes currently sharing in the fun, pretending and growing. Since we began in May all the children have grown in confidence and communication skills. Those that clung to Mum, Dad, Nanny, Granddad or Aunty now run in and sit on the multicoloured parachute ready to begin the class".
Pyjama Drama achieves learning outcomes in line with the National Curriculum Early Years Foundation Stage. We believe that pre-school formative years are key to the social and intellectual development of children.
"We love to pretend, dance, explore and play. Classes are full of fun and games that encourage children to use their imaginations and to develop social skills such as concentration, co-operation and confidence, creative play should be central to the daily lives of children. It's never too early to develop your children's life skills and at Pyjama Drama we achieve this whilst having a whole lot of fun".
Each term focuses on a different theme, so one week you could be flying to the moon – the next week you could be chasing dragons and living as a knight in a castle!
Although not a performance academy those who want the chance to shine are able sing a favourite song or rhyme at the end of each session "it's great to see the children so willing at the end of a session to show everyone in the group a new song they learnt at nursery or a rhyme their grandparents have taught them and with such confidence too".
Pyjama Drama caters for youngsters aged two to five. Sessions are held Saturday mornings at the Harvest Fields Centre,
