Earning Brownie Points

Ask a Brownie in Burntwood what they like best about Brownies and you will get a multitude of replies, "playing games", "pack holiday" or "making new friends". Guiding in Burntwood is full of fun and friendships that are made to last.

We cater for girls from 5 to 105 in our 4 Rainbow, 5 Brownie, and 3 Guide units, then it's Senior Section, Adult Leaders and the Trefoil Guild. We meet at Fulfen, Highfields, Boney Hay schools and Chase Terrace Technology College, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The aim of Guiding is 'to help girls and young women develop emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually so that they can make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world'.

Rainbows take part in crafts, games and, this year, parties as it is their 25th birthday year as well as going on a Rainbow Sleepover.

Girls come to Brownies at seven and enjoy a variety of badge work, Pack Holiday, games, crafts and activities such as archery and climbing.

Once they reach 10 the girls are ready for Guides. They help to plan their own evenings and enjoy camping, as well as building on what they have done in Brownies.

At 14, girls move on to Senior Section. The Duke of Edinburgh scheme, Young Leaders and International travel are a few of their options here.

As girls reach 18 they can train as Adult Leaders and help out with younger girls.   Adult Leaders have fun too; we have a Pamper weekend coming up.

The Trefoil Guild in Burntwood is a group of past Guiding members who have an active social life and are there to support us in any way they can.

Watching a quiet, shy Rainbow blossom to a confident Brownie and become a caring, thoughtful Guide is immensely rewarding. If you would like to become part of this process our District Commissioner, Jennie Hewins, would love to hear from you on 0775 810147.
